This is a glossary. A glossary is an alphabetical list of terms that relate to a specific subject. What you see here is a glossary of academic terms that are used in this module.

Use this glossary as a resource if you forget what a term means.

**Essential Terms for Module 3**
New Vocabulary Words	Definition	Image / Example
Analytic Read	Read the text slowly and carefully. You write on the text to show what you are thinking as you read. You will read the text more than once.
Annotation	The writing you do to show what you are thinking. You do this when you are reading a text.
Paraphrase	You find a sentence or two in the original text and then write them down, but in your own words. You keep the meaning, but change the words as much as you can.
Quote / Quotation	Copy part of the text exactly the way it is written. We put quotation marks around what we have copied.
Inference	This is a conclusion or idea you come up with based on what you read and what you know.
Summary in Fiction	We read the whole text first. Then, we fill in the sentence frame "Somebody Wanted...., But... So... Then..." to uncover the main idea in fiction.
Main Idea	This is what the text, video, song is mostly about. It's the point of the text. We also call this the central idea.
